Add an AI chatbot to your Shopify store

Convoro, the AI chatbot that answers your shoppers’ questions, captures their contact details and takes booking requests, goes on a Shopify store with one script snippet in your theme. There’s no app to install.

The snippet

What you’ll paste

<!-- Convoro Chat Widget -->
<script>
  (function() {
    var w = document.createElement('script');
    w.type = 'text/javascript';
    w.async = true;
    w.src = 'https://www.convoro.org/widget.js';
    w.setAttribute('data-business-id', 'YOUR_BUSINESS_ID');
    var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];
    s.parentNode.insertBefore(w, s);
  })();
</script>
What the snippet looks like. Copy yours from the dashboard: it has your business ID in place of YOUR_BUSINESS_ID.

Step by step

Install in theme.liquid

  1. Copy your snippet from Convoro

    In your Convoro dashboard, save your Business information first: the snippet needs your business ID. Then open Website Widget, set the name, colours and welcome message, and under Add it to your site click Copy.

    You only paste it once. Changes you make in the dashboard later show up on your site without touching the code again.

  2. Back up your theme

    Shopify recommends duplicating a theme before editing its code. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes, click the ⋯ button next to your current theme and choose Duplicate.

  3. Open the code editor

    On the same page, click ⋯ next to your current theme and choose Edit code. In the Layout folder, open theme.liquid.

  4. Paste just before </body>

    Search the file for </body> (Ctrl+F, or Cmd+F on a Mac). Paste the snippet on the line above it and click Save.

  5. Check it’s live

    Open your site in a private or incognito window. The chat bubble appears in the corner you chose, and opens by itself unless you turned auto-open off. Send a test question, then find the conversation in your Leads inbox.

Paid themes

Shopify doesn’t let you edit the code of a paid theme you’re still trialling. Buy the theme first, or add the snippet to your published theme. (Checked against Shopify’s help pages on 28 September 2026.)

In your store

What the chat does for shoppers

  • Answers visitors from your business profile (services, prices, hours and locations) and only about your business.
  • Replies in the language the visitor writes in, day and night.
  • Can ask for a name and email before the chat, and a phone number when someone books. Switch each off if you prefer.
  • Takes booking requests, emails you the details and marks the conversation as booked in your Leads inbox. It doesn’t sync with a calendar.
  • Shows your packages as cards with a Book button, and an Open in Google Maps button for your address.
  • Matches your brand: name, colours, avatar, welcome message and which corner it sits in. It renders in its own shadow DOM, so your theme’s styles don’t change it and it doesn’t change your theme.

What it can’t do in a store

Convoro doesn’t read your Shopify products, stock, orders or discounts, can’t take payments and can’t look up an order. It answers from the business profile you build in Convoro: scan your store’s pages to start, check and edit what it found, and add your shipping and returns policies.

Troubleshooting

If the chat doesn’t appear

  • Check you edited the theme that’s currently published, not a copy.
  • Make sure the snippet sits inside theme.liquid, just above </body>, and that you clicked Save.
  • After switching or updating your theme, add the snippet to the new theme.
  • The widget is switched on: the switch at the top of Website Widget should read “Live on your site”.
  • You pasted the snippet from your own dashboard, so the business ID is yours.
  • You’re checking the live site in a private window, not an editor preview.
  • An ad or script blocker in your browser isn’t hiding it.
  • If your site sets a Content Security Policy, it allows https://www.convoro.org for scripts and connections.
  • If the chat appears twice, the snippet is on the page twice. Remove one copy.

FAQ

Shopify questions

Is Convoro a Shopify app?

No. There’s nothing to install from the Shopify App Store. Convoro is one script snippet that you paste into your theme’s theme.liquid file.

Can the chatbot check order status or stock?

No. Convoro doesn’t connect to Shopify’s catalog, inventory or orders. It answers from your Convoro business profile, so add your shipping, returns and other policies there, and send order questions to your team.

Does the chat appear on the checkout page?

No. Shopify’s checkout doesn’t use your theme’s theme.liquid, so the chat shows on your storefront pages but not at checkout.

Will it slow my store down?

The snippet loads the widget asynchronously, so it doesn’t block your pages from rendering.

What happens when I switch or update my theme?

Code you add lives in that theme. A new theme needs the snippet added again, and Shopify says code changes can be removed when an update isn’t compatible with them, so check the chat after every theme update.

Which Convoro plan do I need?

Website chat is on every plan, starting with Basic at $49/month. See pricing.
